Customer loyalty in a gel packet

The good people at GU Energy have earned a loyal customer.

I’ve mentioned on this site before about my cycling habit.  I ride a lot.  Mountain, Road, and Cyclocross.  An entire section of our pantry at home is dedicated to energy drinks, bars, gel packets, and other pre, during, and post ride fuel.

Over the past year I’ve been diligent about collecting the used gel packs with the intent to recycle.  A few weeks ago I sent an email to the good people at GU Energy about how I might be able to recycle the used packs.  They wrote me back immediately with a pretty simple note:

Hi Walter,

Unfortunately we discontinued our “Stash your Trash” program. There is another environmentally conscious program in the works, so please stay tuned!  For your diligence, however, we would love to send you some samples. Please provide a shipping address and a couple favorite flavors, and we’ll get them to you ASAP.

It’s nice to know that a company that didn’t have to really do anything, took the extra steps to quickly acknowledge my request, let me know that they are working on an alternative, and then send me such a generous gift.  Great customer service and I’m a happy and loyal customer!
